Children's cat killing contest cancelled
#1
New Zealand has cancelled the children's cat killing contest because of the negative public reaction.
The public and animals rights groups were in agreement that it should be stopped.
The New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals stated it is pleased the contest has been cancelled.

It is worth protesting things like this contest. The protests worked and the contest is cancelled. This doesn't solve the feral cat problem, but it does give them time to find a humane solution.

It's horrific, and whoever came up with this evil idea has to be a serious sadist. I am glad to hear it's been stopped. Killing the cats is dark enough, but training children to think it's fun or fine to participate in cruelty like this is pure evil.

Yes, there are ways to handle the feral cat population. Trap, neuter, release if people weren't such cheapskates and downright lazy or someone hadn't invented an unbelievably wicked way to cause immense suffering, and scar children for life.

I can't even imagine what it would have done to expose children to such cruelty. The cost of trying to fix a lot of damaged children would be higher than the cost of dealing humanely with the feral cats. If they did a massive effort to neuter the cats, the numbers would stop increasing and even start to drop.
It would be a big undertaking and it would involve some cost, but killing contests have a higher cost in terms of human wellbeing. No one can be involved in acts of cruelty without being affected somehow.

So true! That really gets to the heart of the issue. Well said, Tobi!
