The bison return to western Canada
#1
The bison in western Canada were almost driven to extinction. A few were saved at the last minute. The prairies have not been healthy without them.
In recent years there have been a number of reintroduction programs. They are going very well. Banff National Park started with 16 bison in 2017.
This year after all the calves are born there will be about 100 bison.
Bison in other sites are doing well too. A herd of 100 bison is soon to be 150.

Bison were a keystone species for the health of the land. They fertilized the land and aided in biodiversity be spreading seeds. Other animals depended on them. The first nations people who live on the land count on the bison. The return of the bison means a return of life to the people.

Everywhere that we restore species we restore the planet. It is a slow process, but the results are worth it.
