Iceland bans whaling until August
#1
Whaling season in Iceland runs from June until September. The government has banned whaling until August 31. It is unlikely that whaling will resume in September. Currently 51% of the population disapproves of whaling. Four years ago it was only 42%. There is little market for the whale meat.
It has been shown that whales take hours to die, so the killing cannot be done humanely.

Iceland was considering banning whaling in 2024.  It looks like the ban might happen a year earlier. There is no doubt the work of environmental groups has made a difference. People were made aware of the cruel reality of whaling. The subject never seemed to go away because protest groups wouldn't let it go away. It looks like a victory for whales in Iceland is almost happening.
