Animals and the Maui wildfires
#1
The wildfires in Maui have been devastating. The latest report I heard puts the death toll over a hundred and it is expected to climb. People had no time to escape. Their pets had no time to escape either. There will have been losses. There have also been survivors. The Maui Humane Society is already receiving injured pets.

A lot of people are working to rescue pets and reunite them with their people. The fires moved so fast that people just had to run. Some people were not home and could not get home. Social media posts are  helping to connect people and their pets. In any disaster situation, it takes time to find the lost and to find those searching for them.

Animal Survival International is there working to save lives. They have some sad images of the devastation.

It is going to take a lot to care for the survivors. There will be orphaned wildlife to care for.
It will take years to rebuild and regrow what was lost.
For now they just want to rescue the animals that are lost and injured.
