Man fined for damaging the habitat of endangered species
#1
A man who owns property near a lake drained marshland that is home to endangered species. It was determined that he had done harm to the ecosystem and he has been fined $200,000.

This is more like it. The fine is for damaging the ecosystem/ habitat of endangered species. It is a substantial fine so people are going to notice.
It is not for hurting endangered species directly. It is for damaging where those species live. It is making the connection between the species and their habitat.
If you damage where they live, you damage the species. In this case it was 3 species. It is not so tempting to do habitat damage if the fine can be this big.
