Banning of Cyanide bombs in the USA
#1
Cyanide bombs are used to kill animals like coyotes in the USA. They have been deployed on public and private land. They kill much more than the target animals. People and their pets have been poisoned. What has happened is not a complete ban, but the Bureau of Land Management is banning their use on public lands. It is the beginning of change.

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/...griculture

It will take time to completely ban the use of cyanide, but banning its use anywhere is a start. There are many different agencies in the USA that use cyanide.
They are not all in favor of the ban yet, but that can change. In time, with more work, the use of cyanide will be stopped.
It is a horrible way for an animal to die and it kills so much more than the intended animals.

I didn't know that such horrendous devices existed until I read this thread! Then I did some research and found out that:

1. These appalling bombs are apparently only used in the USA and Australia, but have existed since the 1930s (coyote getter) - i.e. appalling suffering has been happening for nearly 100 years in these countries. There is also a longish list of humans and domestic dogs killed or injured by such devices. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M44_(cyanide_device)

2. The Trump administration tried to roll back on planned restrictions of these devices. See: https://time.com/5744950/trump-cyanide-bombs/

Why am I not surprised that the Trump administration supported the cyanide bombs. They were very bad for the environment.

I can't believe that any country would continue to use something like the cyanide bombs after humans were killed by them. Clearly they are not safe.
The uncontrolled release of a seriously toxic poison is irresponsible. There is no way to regulate where the poison goes. There are no warning labels to protect humans. The poison is just put out there where anything can get at it. We made a lot of mistakes last century. I can't believe we have carried them over to this century.

We also understand now that predators like coyotes are needed for the health of ecosystems. We need to learn to live with predators. We need to learn to live with a lot of things. What we don't need to live with is the indiscriminate use of poisons like cyanide.
